Apprentice visit by Karen Buck MP

To begin Social Enterprise Day in style this morning, staff in our Centre for Research, Learning & Development (CRLD) hosted a visit by Education Minister Karen Buck, keen to meet our growing number of apprentices.

We are very proud of our work encouraging and supporting apprentices into childcare, especially for those who may have been out of work or training for long periods of time.  And a cornerstone in our approach can be found in our transformational 'Step into Learning' programme which helps support apprentices as they rejoin the world of work and training.

Speaking at the visit, Karen Buck MP, said:

I am delighted to visit LEYF today and meet their fantastic apprentices.

It is so encouraging to see how this important childcare provider has taken direct steps to support apprentices at a very difficult point in their careers.

I have been greatly impressed by LEYF's Step into Learning work and the integration of key skills which significantly improves the effectiveness of the course for each apprentice. The course is clearly communicated to potential apprentices by word of mouth and is so crucial to encouraging more young people to come on board.

Mine Conkbayir, Senior Programme Manager for Apprentices, added:

At LEYF we have always been committed to supporting and inspiring the children, families and local communities we serve.

For us, the only way to do this is through a sustainable and socially enterprising approach - something which is evident in our approach to apprenticeships and the lasting impact we have with our trainees.

We believe the extra support we provide ensures our apprentices are better equipped to last the distance and go on to provide first class childcare for London’s children.
